Supermarket display
Ice has an extensive application in the supermarkets, produce markets and any other sea food markets. In the supermarket, ice is used to keep the various displays of seafood, meats, fruits and vegetables fresh because ice gives it high water content and a temperature from –0.5 degrees centigrade to 0 degrees centigrade. It can cover the entire area food surface to prevent loss of moisture and can prevent the loss of important nutrients. Practice has proved that ice can keep food fresh for a relatively long time. The ice can prevent dehydration due to loss of water which a low temperature alone cannot prevent and prevent the food from rotting because ice prolongs freshness by keeping the food moist.
Meat Processing
Ice also has extensive applications in meat processing and shipping. From the time the meat is butchered, processed and shipped, bacteria is present and begins multiplying which changes the meats color , appeal and freshness, but when ice is used in the possessing of sausage for example, the sausage will cool faster and acquire an ideal density which will cause it to keep it's freshness and look of freshness and in return improve the meats sanitary standards.
Sea food industry

Even with good developed and technical mechanical refrigeration, there is no substitute for ice because of its special and unique characteristics. Ice can keep fish products fresh and moist at the appropriate temperature without expensive monitors. Crushed ice is a special freezing system of immense practical and economical usage. While other refrigeration systems only offer low temperatures causing the fish products to dehydrate and damage by frost, crushed ice offers a perfect cooling environment of 0 degrees centigrade while at the same time keeping products fresh and moist. The water from the ice also cleans and flushes away bacteria on the surface of sea food and fish products which otherwise would cause strong odour.
Concrete Cooling (Hot weather concreting)
In the course of laying concrete, a large amount of heat is produced which can produce vapours within the concrete which cause the concrete to crack. Mixing ice in with the concrete absorbs the heat and can prevent vapour from forming which would also reduce the moisture content considerably.
For large pours and in hot climates, accurate concrete cooling is essential for a strong structure. As concrete cures, a natural heat is generated, known as heat of hydration. With this heat increase, the volume of the concrete increases as well. Once the concrete begins to naturally cool, the volume begins to decrease, causing cracks. By utilizing precisely controlled chilled water and/or thin, rapidly melting ice chips during the initial pour, the maximum temperature of the concrete is lowered, ultimately decreasing the temperature differential, and producing a more sound structure.
